AMD Ryzen 9
The AMD Ryzen 9 series includes the fastest AMD processors for the mainstream area. AMD Ryzen 9 processors are available for both the desktop and the notebook. In the desktop area, the AMD Ryzen 9 processors have at least 12 and a maximum of 16 CPU cores. The desktop processors are in direct competition with the Intel Core i9 processors, which have a similar number of CPU cores and thus also performance. Due to the high number of CPU cores and threads used simultaneously for data processing, the AMD Ryzen 9 processors are particularly suitable for applications that can use many threads, which is usually the case in the professional sector (photo editing, CAD, etc.). The AMD Ryzen 9 processors are currently faster than Intel's Core i9 processors in multi-core benchmarks, but have to admit defeat to the Intel counterparts when only one CPU core is loaded. The current AMD Ryzen 9 processors are manufactured in a 5 nm manufacturing process at TSMC. The AMD Ryzen 9 7000 series supports up to 128 GB of DDR5-5200 type RAM. The PCI Express interface is supported in version PCIe 5.0, which is sufficient to connect modern graphics cards with maximum speed. The processors can address the main memory in a maximum of two channels, which is identical to the Intel Core i9 processors.Although the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, for example, can operate with a clock frequency of up to 5.7 GHz in turbo mode, AMD uses a very low TDP of 170 watts. In the short term, the AMD Ryzen 9 processors can sometimes consume up to 230 watts, but the energy consumption of the processors is lower than that of the Intel Core i9 processors, which can consume up to 125 watts permanently and up to 241 watts in the short term. The largest expansion stages of the AMD Ryzen 9 7000 desktop processors have up to 64 MB level 3 cache. This is significantly more than Intel uses in its Core i9 processors. In the mobile sector, the AMD processors are not on the same level as the mobile Intel Core i9 processors, which work significantly faster, despite the more powerful integrated graphics unit (iGPU).Evolution of AMD Ryzen 9 processorsArchitectureIPC ImprovementSingle core clockMulti core clockAMD Ryzen 9 3950XZen 2 (7nm)4.7GHz4.0GHzAMD Ryzen 9 5950XZen 3 (7nm)+ 19%4.9 GHz (+ 5%)4.2 GHz (+ 5%)AMD Ryzen 9 7950XZen 4 (5 nm)+ 13%5.7 GHz (+ 17%)5.2 GHz (+ 24%)
